Have you recently considered a career change? Maybe you are no longer happy with what you are doing, or you are in between jobs and are looking for a change. No matter your reason, a career transition can be scary to many, however, it can change your life in many ways.
Do not shy away from making a career change because of fear. Here are a few things to keep in mind to help you through your career transition:
- Make sure that whatever change you are considering is something that you are passionate about. Leaving your current career behind, may cause you to rethink your new choice, but take your time to make a list of why you want to move to the new career path. Is it something you enjoy doing as a hobby now, or something that you have done in the past that makes you truly happy? Determine why you want to make the change, it will help you in your decision.
- Many people consider a career change, simply because they have become burned out by their current career. Does your current career make you unhappy, lack motivation, and affect your well-being? Then perhaps it is time for a change. Make sure you consider how this change will affect your life – will it take up more time, due to a learning curve or will it provide you a more flexible schedule where you can enjoy life?
- It is no secret that as we move through our careers in life, we want and expect different things. What you want and need in your 20’s will be very different than what you want and need in your 40’s. The same is true in your career. Make sure that you understand your needs and wants as you make your career transition.
While there is no one right way or one clear path to making a career transition, it can be an exciting time. Embrace the fear and consider some of these tips to help you make the change of your life.
